One of the first projects I managed at VISO was a large light fixture of polished pipe, with runs snaking out across the ceiling.
The golden polished plated brass finish and dark ceiling of the room makes a big statement with contrast and achieved the up-scale design intent in spades.
The real challenge was to fast-track manufacturing after finalizing the drawing approvals somewhat late in mid October.
It only left about 6-7 weeks before a hard deadline to deliver to worksite at the end of November. Manufacturing, testing and finishing the fixture with local suppliers is a job that would normally take 10 weeks.
This short timeline was the major challenge. To pull this off, a bit of lateral agile thinking was needed for just-in-time manufacturing.
Production needed to be scheduled as such that the largest, simpler pieces of pipe were polished and finished first. While smaller pieces with bends and features could be allowed more time to manufacture. With Quality Assurance and testing ongoing until entire assembly was complete in warehouse, it was ready to ship shortly after!
